Explore Barcelona

Explore Barcelona. Back at the end of 2016 I needed a break for myself. At that time I was tired and needed some new energy. Barcelona was for me the perfect place to reflect back on 2016. But also to explore Barcelona again. This city in Spain-Catalunya has so much to offer. From great bars to shopping opportunities. This city is incredible. Today I want to share with you. How I explored Barcelona. I’ve bin there a few times. But every single-time it feels like I’m there for the first time. Even now I’m writing this. It feels like I’m just back from the city. I’ve booked this trip in the autumn of 2016. Flying with the royal dutch-airlines for the first Time. It was a flight for only 2,5 Hours from Amsterdam to Barcelona. I decided to celebrate my birthday in Barcelona.

I really took some time for myself. 2016 ended not bad, but it was the first-year without my father, who died in beginning of 2015. So it was times to look back at 2016 and looking forward to 2017. I’ve spend three-days in Barcelona from Friday till Sunday. In this blogpost I want to share: Where to stay? Where to eat? what to wear? And of course the most important thing: What to see in the capital of Catalunya. Explore Barcelona is great and something I recommend to do at least once in a life-time.

Explore Barcelona.

Exploring this city is amazing, from Bars, to restaurants, to beaches, night-clubs. Barcelona as a city has so much to offer. For everyone there are things to discover. But how to do this? You can choose to explore Barcelona by:Bike. The other way to explore the capital of Catalunya is of course with a:Bus-tour. These are two great-options to explore the city. When you want to explore specific area’s or neighbourhoods. I highly recommend to buy a metro/bus tickets for the whole day. You can see here:TMB. For around 10,00 euro’s you have a ticket for the whole day and every zone. This is something what I also did. Because I wanted to discover a specific place in the city. You also can use a uber that drive’s you around town. But when you don’t have that budget. The metro-bus tickets are worth the money and you will safe a lot of time. Make sure you know exactly what neighbourhood you want to see and how to get there by metro or bus. Before your trip it’s very important to make a clear plan.

What to see in Barcelona.

Well I don’t know exactly where to start. There are so many things to see in this city. But let we start with the Playa de Catalunya and Plaza Espanya. Both squares are in the centre of the city. Plaza de Catalunya is a very special place for the people who live in Barcelona. Specially for the people who are born in Barcelona or Catalunya region. It’s there place for freedom and to be Catalonian. Back in the history of Spain. Catalonian was not a free nation, until the death of Franco. So after the death of Franco. The people of Catalunya where free to be themselves and to speak the Catalonian language wherever the go. That’s why plaza Catalunya is there symbol of freedom and the most important place in Catalunya and Barcelona.

Plaza the Espanya means less for the people. But still a very touristic place. It’s near plaza Catalunya and a must-see when you love to see buildings.

Views of Barcelona.

If you are a beach-fan, like I am. Barceloneta is the beach-place of Barcelona. It’s the neighbourhood close to beach. People celebrate life over there. In this area you find great place to have dinners and do some beach-activities. If you want to a have a stunning view over the beach you can visit the:W-Barcelona. This hotel is located at the beach and is the perfect place to experience the beach in a luxurious way. But not only that, you will have a amazing view over the beach.

When you want to have a nice view over the city. I recommend to see visit: Turo de La Rovira. The first pictures in my post. Are made over there and you get there by metro. From the centre to Turo de la rover is ¬†around 30 minutes with by metro. After you get out of the metro, you need to walk for 10 minutes. It’s the highest spot in Barcelona. During the evening it can be quite busy with a lot tourist people, who enjoying the view. Over the day it’s less busy. It depends on your own-preference.

Where to have dinner?

If you search for good-dinners in Barcelona. You have plenty of options. I don’t even know where to start? But let met tell you from my what I know. Near the beach of Barcelona you will have a great restaurant called: Barceloneta , Carrer de l’ Escar, 22. This is the location and you have a fine dinners over there. I’ve paid around 20,00 euro’s for a whole meal.

The other restaurant is : Los caracoles. It’s typical restaurant where you can eat: Paella and other Spanish and Catalonian dinner-traditions. It’s located in the street: Carrer dels Escudellers 14.¬†

Where to stay in Barcelona?

As I mentioned earlier in this blogpost. I’ve bin in Barcelona a few times. Even before I as was blogger. Back in the summer of 2012. I’ve visit the famous soccer-game: FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid, together with a old-mate from College. We had our stay at:Hotel4Barcelona. Which is a hotel located near the beach. It’s 10 minutes walk from the beach. This is a four-star-hotel. But a hotel that I highly recommend. The breakfast-options where amazing, and the rooms where amazing as well. When you want to explore Barcelona for a couple of days. You want to have a good-stay. This hotel has even a small-gym. So you are able to work-out in the morning. Before your day starts. It’s nearby the city-centre and there are good links to the airport: El Prat. Which is the biggest airport of Barcelona.

What to wear in Barcelona?

Now what to wear in Barcelona depends on the time you booked your trip. When you go during the summer time. I Highly recommend to buy a lot of t-shirts and some linen-shirts. Try to wear as much linen or comfortable clothes as you can. Barcelona is very hot during the summer. Make sure you have at least: Two outfits ready for each-day. Make sure you also have some accessoires with you. For example: couple pair of sunglasses and hats.

When you go around December /November / January: take a good-coat with you. When you go during the Winter-time. A Trench-coat or some other rain-coat is something I recommend. You might not needed directly. But it’s always handy to have it in your suit-case. Because you never know how weather can change. Although in Barcelona, it doesn’t rain that much. The temperatures are much lower than during the spring/summer time.

During my last trip to Barcelona. It was December and the temperature was around 18/19 degrees. So I was able to walk without a coat. I was wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt made from cotton. Further more I was wearing a black-slim-fit jeans from:Acne Studios. It was my favourite jeans to wear around that time. Of course I had a couple of sneakers with me. I was wearing my beloved sneakers from:Christian Louboutin. This is something I not recommend to do. Make sure you have some simple-sneakers with you for long walks.
